With temps reaching the 90s almost every day, I (like much of America) have been fueled by iced coffee recently. It’s refreshing, delicious, and simultaneously delivers my caffeine intake while cooling me down. What could be better? Unfortunately, heading to a local coffee shop can cost upwards of four dollars a drink; seeing as I enjoy my coffee daily, this is a rather expensive habit that I’m not willing to form.
Therefore, I decided to start making my own iced drinks at home, and I’ll be posting a few of my favorites over the next few weeks. Today I’d like to share with you my mocha smoothie. What I especially love about this drink is that in addition to the thick, creamy, chocolatey deliciousness you’d expect from a fancy blended ice coffee, you also have the added nutritional benefits of potassium and protein. Yes!
Like my other smoothie recipes – here, here, or here, you can make this drink in under three minutes. I love to throw it together for my first breakfast before heading to the gym. It is perfect for keeping me going strong without weighing me down. It is also ideal for sipping on your back deck in the mid afternoon when that 3:00 slump hits (Does that happen to anyone else? Between 3-4 I can hardly keep my eyes open!)
So next time you’re looking to treat yourself to an iced coffee, look no further than your kitchen. And stay tuned for more delicious coffee drinks in the coming weeks 🙂
What is your drink of choice during these hot summer months? Let me know below!

- 1/4 cup very strong coffee/espresso
- 1 tsp. cocoa powder
- 1 cup milk of choice
- 1 very ripe banana, peeled, cut into chunks, and frozen
- 1/2 cup ice
- Combine all of the ingredients into your blender. I love my Ninja. It makes everything so creamy!
